Workshop Level 1: HTTP, Basics of Python, HTML, First Web App

Level 1 workshop. Bring your laptop and a desire to build. We will learn important fundamental concepts while creating and launching real projects. No prior knowledge or experience necessary! Complete beginners are welcome!
First we’ll learn some fundamentals:
– Internet vs. Web
– HTTP, client and server
– Request/Response model
– What happens under the hood when you visit websites
Then we’ll build our own web server and learn to do what browsers do:
– Basics of Python programming language
– Terminal and tools setup
– Simple HTTP server module
– Basics of HTML and CSS
Next, we’ll go a bit deeper into Python and create a web app:
– Python variables, conditions and modules
– Package management
– Flask and routing
All the code we’re going to build will be available on Github. You will also receive PDF handouts with cheat sheets and lecture notes, but I encourage you to make your own notes regardless.
